Want to chart new course in Pakistan ties: Modi to Sharif

New Delhi/Islamabad, June 13 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has replied to a letter from Pakistani premier Nawaz Sharif that he looks forward to working closely with Islamabad "in an atmosphere free from confrontation and violence in order to chart a new course" in bilateral ties.

"The prime minister has replied back to Sharif's letter," a source said in New Delhi Friday.

Sharif wrote the letter to Modi June 2 that he was satisfied with the bilateral talks they held during his visit to India to attend the prime minister's swearing-in ceremony May 26.

In his letter dated June 11, Modi wrote: "I was encouraged by our discussions on our bilateral relations and the convergence in our views."

"I was particularly delighted and honoured by your participation in the ceremony for the swearing-in of the new government," Dawn online quoted Modi as saying in the letter.

"I look forward to working closely with you and your government in an atmosphere free from confrontation and violence in order to chart a new course in our bilateral relations," the Indian prime minister said.

Modi thanked Sharif for the sari that he sent for his mother, "a gesture that she has deeply appreciated".

He expressed sorrow and condemnation over the loss of lives in the senseless and barbaric terror attack at Karachi international airport, the Pakistani daily reported.

Sunday night, a brazen terror attack was mounted at Karachi's Jinnah International Airport, in which 23 people were killed including 10 militants.

A second strike followed Tuesday when the Airport Security Force (ASF) Academy's camp near the Karachi airport came under attack from heavily-armed Taliban gunmen. The attackers managed to escape.

Besides mentioning the attack, Modi said that the relationship between India and Pakistan defined by peace, friendship and cooperation would unleash enormous opportunities for the youth, secure a more prosperous future for people and accelerate progress across the region.

Whatever happened to the pre-election promises of sending those who didn't support the current government to Pakistan?
While Peace is often the preferred path, one should walk the walk after having talked the talk.
Or is it plain normal to say whatever the vote bank wants to hear regardless of conviction???

Pakistan is not a reliable country why Indians are often beaten by their buttering talks. It looks like all parties are same. act like patriotic while they are in opposition and once they get power they surrender their principles.

My dear PM Modi, please do not forget Kargil. Your party was in power that time and what a great loss India has to incur in that war! Initially India was losing the war but later due to some factors India had won it at the end. Everyone knows that and we should be careful when dealing with Pakistan. Our PM was always criticizing the UPA whenever they tried to talk peace with Pakistan. Now the tables have changed and our PM is changing his colours! God save our motherland!

To quote Aristotle " Well begun is half done " Our PM is on the right track since the well thought off move to invite the PM of Pakistan for his swearing in to break the ice, from now on, it is for both parties to go ahead and sort out long standing issues, Pakistan (Read - ISI which controls the Government & Army) has understood that unlike the Congress, the present BJP Government headed by a tough and Nationalist Modi, means business and will not tolerate any nonsense from across the border, even if it comes to the worst case scenario of a war, enough is enough and we have to put the terrorism exporting Pakki's in place once and for all if India has to progress. For too long Pakistan has taken advantahe of the soft peddling nature of the Congress Governments who have ruled this nation for decades but have not done anything tangible on any front, for the benefit of the nation. Give Modi two terms and we will see a India on par with the best of Western and European countries.

All is not well in Pakistan after Mr. Modi Became PM with a clear mandate. They now realized (I'm optimistic) this shadow boxing hit n run attitude no longer accepted by us.confrontation and violence does no good for both countries. We have to support PM in this endeavors without any bias.

Its High time, No concession on time. How much tax we paid, millions of rupees. Otherwise that money we would have used for looking after our elderly parents. There is no mercy by the top means-.
