Seven protesters killed in clashes with police in Pakistan


Islamabad, June 17 (IANS): At least seven protestors, including two women, were killed and over 60 others injured Tuesday during clashes with police in Lahore city.

The clashes started when the workers of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), a political party, protested removal of security barriers from in front of the party's headquarters in Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab province, Xinhua reported.

Police made a baton charge and fired tear gas shells to disperse the protestors who were throwing stones at policemen.

The situation became tense when police force opened fire at protestors.

Over 60 injured, including 17 policemen, were taken to the hospitals.

The toll in the incident is likely to rise as a number of injured are in a critical condition, hospital sources said.
