Delhi Metro, Ghaziabad authority ink deal for route extension

Ghaziabad, June 17 (IANS): The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Tuesday signed an agreement for the extension of the metro line from Dilshad Garden till the New Bus Stand here, officials said.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by GDA vice chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav and DMRC's director for business development S.D. Sharma in the presence of DMRC managing director Mangu Singh.

On the occasion, Mangu Singh said they would try to complete the 9.41-km project before the stipulated time of three years.

Yadav said the city "has been waiting since 2002 for the arrival of the metro", and that they will try to further extend the corridor up to the CBI Academy in the next phase.

As per the funding pattern decided in 2013, a total of Rs.1,770 crore will be shared by the union government, the state government and the DMRC for the elevated track.

The stretch will have seven stations - Shaheed Nagar, Rajbagh, Rajendra Nagar, Shyam Park, Mohan Nagar, Arthala and New Bus Stand.
