London, Jul 21: A day after he was conferred a honorary degree of Doctorate of Arts by a British university, Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan was hailed in the House of Commons on Thursday for his "towering contribution to Indian cinema."
Labour MP Keith Vaz moved an Early Day Motion signed by about 100 MPs in the Commons commending the megastar's "towering contribution to the Indian cinema and recognizing his remarkable achievements in sweeping 10 Filmfare awards".
It recalled that according to a BBC online poll conducted in 1999, Bachchan was millennium's biggest star.
The Early Day Motion is a British Parliamentary device to call for a debate on a particular subject but generally it draws attention of the House to the issue concerned, without any debate.
