Mangalore, Jul 26: The district first additional sessions judge has awarded lifer to a person for murdering his wife.

First additional sessions judge P Sandesh sentenced Sadanand Poojary of Venur for life for killing his wife Jayanti on January 14, 2004.  He has also been fined of Rs 1,000.  Failure in paying the fine would result in additional imprisonment of one month.

Sadanand had married Jayanti some 16 years ago.  Theirs was a love marriage and for the first 15 years they did not have any problem in marital life.  However, it was only after 15 years that Jayanti came to know that Sadanand had maintained extra-marital relationship all these years.

She tried to correct him and bring him back to the right track.  She even sought help from her in-laws as well as parents.  The matter went even upto the local Billavar association.  An amicable solution was found later and both of them started living together.

But Sadanand had some other plans.  He strangled her to death on January 14, 2004 morning.

A complaint was filed in the Venur police station in this regard.  Subsequently a chargesheet was filed against Sadanand and court had taken up the matter for hearing thereafter.
