Meghalaya gets new chief secretary


Shillong, June 28 (IANS): P.B.O. Warjri, a 1978 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, has been appointed the new chief secretary of Meghalaya, an official said Saturday.

He will succeed W.M.S. Pariat, who is retiring June 30.

Warjri is currently chairman for administrative reforms and additional chief secretary in-charge of the soil and water conservation department.

He joined the IAS in 1978 and was allotted the Manipur-Tripura cadre. He served in Manipur in various capacities until 2008 when he was principal secretary for home and planning.

He also held various posts in the departments of food and civil supplies, vigilance, taxes, industries, excise, youth affairs and sports, agriculture and urban development in Manipur.

Warjri was also deputy commissioner of Manipur's border district of Chandel and served as director of the North Eastern Council.
