Mangalore, Jul 26: The Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, in association with the Mangalore Taluk Mahila Mandal Okkoota (Federation), truly brought out the spirit of the month of Aati (Aashadha), by organizing a colourful function in the 'Chavadi' (yard) of its office on Wednesday, July 26 afternoon.

The observance was exclusively for Tuluva women. Okkoota president Vijayalakshmi  B Shetty welcomed the gathering. The function was inaugurated in a unique way, with Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat president Mamata Gatti making the first move in a game of traditional game of 'Chennemane'.

An illustrative talk on the significance of Aati by former superintendent at St Ann's institutions Srimati Rao was the highlight of the programme.

Tulu traditional delicacies like Moode, Padengi-Kanile Kajpu, Manjalda Ireta Addye, Tekkareta Addye, Payasa, Nurge Sappuda Ambade, Kudutta Chatni, Timare Chatni, Pelakkai Gatti, Patrode and others were served. Needless to say everyone enjoyed them to their hearts' content.

An enthusiastic team headed by Academy president Seetaram Kulal organized the event. Registrar Dr Duggappa Kajekar, Chidambar Baikampady and other members of the Academy were present. Sarojini Shetty compered the programme and Jayanti Bangera proposed a vote of thanks.
