Haryana CM wants rollback of suburban rail fares in NCR

Gu Jun 28 (IANS): Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda Saturday demanded the rollback of suburban rail fare hike in the National Capital Region (NCR) on the lines of Mumbai.

"We demand that as the rail fare was not increased in Mumbai, people of NCR should also be put in that category as the work culture in Mumbai and NCR is the same," Hooda told media persons.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the railways minister must think about the people living in NCR," he said.

Hooda said the BJP-led government shocked the people of the country by hiking rail fares within a month of forming the government.

The central government recently raised railway passenger fares by 14.2 percent in all classes and freight charges by 6.5 percent. The new fares came into effect from June 25 but were not implemented in Mumbai's suburban trains.
