Girl killed in Egypt blast

Cairo, June 28 (IANS): A girl was killed and her mother wounded in a blast outside Egypt's capital Cairo Saturday, media reported.

The blast hit an unfinished telecommunications building of state-owned Telecom Egypt, the country's fixed-line monopoly operator, in the 6th of October City outside Cairo, Xinhua reported citing the official news agency MENA.

The father of the killed girl is a guard at the building. The reason behind the explosion is not known yet.

MENA said Egyptian Communications Minister Atef Helmy inspected the scene, and quoted the governor of Giza province, where the building is located, as saying the blast cut the services to about 800 clients.

Since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi by the army in July last year over mass protests, a wave of explosions have targeted policemen and troops in the restive Sinai peninsula and lately some attacks have hit Cairo and Nile Delta cities.
