Mangalore, Jul 28: "On an average 17 million hectares of land is destroyed every year.  If this continues in the same rate, the entire forest will be destroyed completely in another 35 years.  So it is our primary duty to preserve flora and fauna," said Mangalore varsity vice-chancellor Prof M Kaveriappa.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of seminar on "Biodiversity - A Life Sustaining System, Significance and Management" held at St Agnes College here on Thursday July 27.

Dr B M Hegde, former vice-chancellor of MAHE released the souvenir on the occasion.  College principal Sr Carmel Rita, botany department head Noeline Pinto, Sr Shalini and Sr Olivia were also present on the occasion.
