Rain spells relief in Gurgaon, hits traffic

Gurgaon, July 2 (IANS): Light to moderate rain in and around Gurgaon Wednesday brought much-needed relief to the people but it also hit traffic in various parts of the city.

The rain that started Wednesday noon brought cheer to the faces of people but it also caused traffic bottlenecks in old and new parts of the city besides on the expressway.

The Hero Honda Chowk on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway once again faced the problem of waterlogging though the rain in the area was only light.

Vehicles going from Delhi to Jaipur and vice versa moved at a snail's pace.

"There was also heavy traffic jam on both sides of the Kherki Daula toll plaza. Service lanes on several stretches of the Expressway also witnessed fights between commuters and toll staff," a senior traffic police officer told IANS.

The temperature that was 37 degrees Celsius dropped to about 27 degrees Celsius at 4 p.m. after the spell of rain. Humidity was nearly 70 percent.

"Wednesday's minimum temperature may be 24 degrees Celsius, three notches below average," a Met official said.

Moderate rain was also reported from Dharuhera town of district Rewari, 45 km from Gurgaon.
