Court extends Jessica Lal murderer Manu Sharma's parole

New Delhi, July 3 (IANS): The Delhi High Court Thursday extended for one month the parole to Manu Sharma, serving a life term in the Jessica Lal murder case, so that he could prepare and submit his masters' thesis.

Justice S. Muralidhar, extending Sharma's parole, asked him to surrender on Aug 2.

Sharma was earlier granted 15 days' parole to sit for his exams which were scheduled to commence from June 19 and to end on June 24.

He has been pursuing his post-graduate examination in human rights.

Sharma, 36, shot dead the 34-year-old ramp model working as a celebrity waitress at the Tamarind Court restaurant of socialite Bina Ramani in south Delhi's Mehrauli area April 29, 1999, after she refused to serve him a drink.

Sharma was sentenced to life imprisonment by the high court in December 2006. The life term was upheld by the Supreme Court.
