Mumbai/New Delhi, Jul 5 (Bhaskar News) : The Ministry of External Affairs is all set to create hassle free ways for passport delivery and eliminate police verification in case of passport renewal. The Mumbaikars will be the first to be benefitted by the change.
On renewal of the passport the second police verification will be waived off in case the previous verification was clear. The recent guidelines issued by MEA states quick delivery with less time consuming with the application for the renewal of passport. Till now, applications for the renewal of passports were treated in the same manner as the application for the new passport.
According to Muktesh Pardeshi, chief passport officer in MEA, Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria and regional passport officer T.D. Sharma has drafted the workplan to do away with the second police verification. It came into notice that the delay in the delivery of the passport was due to the delay in the process of issuing verification certificate from the police and now the police verification procedure will be completed within seven days added Rakesh Maria. However, providing passports to juveniles, government employees and senior citizens without any verification is in the process.
Muktesh Pardeshi said that the three category police verification in the issuance of the passport has been directed. The pre police verification is mandatory for the first-time passports and the post –police verification that could be done after the passport is issued.
