Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal shifted to Mizoram


New Delhi, July 6 (IANS): Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal was Sunday shifted to Mizoram and Rajasthan Governor Margaret Alva given additional responsibility of the state.

Mizoram Governor Vakkom Purushothaman has been appointed as governor of Nagaland for the remainder of his term, said a press communique from the Rashtrapati Bhavan. 

"Dr. (Smt.) Kamla Beniwal, governor of Gujarat is transferred and appointed as governor of Mizoram for the remainder of her term vice Vakkom Purushothaman," the communique said.

It said that Purushothaman, who will be the governor of Nagaland for the remainder of his term, will continue to hold the additional charge as governor of Tripura.

The communique said that Alva would discharge the functions of the governor of Gujarat, in addition to her own duties, until other arrangements were made.

The appointments will take effect from the dates the incumbents assume charge of their respective offices, the communique said.
