Private security agencies told to register online

New Delhi, July 7 (IANS): To keep a check on private security agencies in the capital, the Delhi government Monday directed them to provide details, including the number of personnel deployed in the city, by July 21, officials said.

The step was taken after reports said some agencies illegally transferred their licenses while others had shut shop but failed to inform the government.

"Various agencies have shut down but have not informed the home department. Some security agencies have illegally given their licenses to other individuals to operate an agency," Additional Secretary (Home) G.P. Singh said.

"Also, many security agencies' licenses are due to expire in 2015. It is therefore, essential that the verification process is initiated so as to complete the process well in time," Singh added.

The information will have to be submitted to the home department online which will help the authorities maintain a complete database of the city's security agencies.

"We will know as to how many guards have been deployed at various establishments, offices in the city as well as details of those guards who have licensed firearms," he said.

At present, 504 agencies providing private security have got licenses from the home department.
