RTI activist stabbed in Uttar Pradesh


Lucknow, July 8 (IANS): An RTI activist was stabbed in Uttar Pradesh's Mau district when he was travelling in an auto rickshaw, police said Tuesday.

The incident happened when RTI activist Raj Kumar Singh was travelling in an auto rickshaw along with a colleague. Unknown men riding motorbike intercepted his vehicle and dragged him out. They attacked him with a hammer and stabbed him many times before fleeing the spot, police said.

The passersby rushed to the spot and rescued the RTI activist. He was taken to a nearby hospital where his condition is stated to be serious. 

The victim told police that he was attacked by sons of a local woman village chief as he had sent some RTI queries against her illegal activities.
