Margao, Aug 4: while Ganesh Chaturthi is just three weeks away, Goans have started the preludes of bhajans on the traditional percussion instrument called ‘Ghumat’.
Ghumat plays a major role in these Bhajans. Goans say ‘Arteo’ for this Bhajans. During Ganesh chaturthi time, these bhajans are sung all over in honour of Lord Ganesha.
In order to preserve the indigenous folk music and art of Goa, the department of Art and culture gears up by organizing training workshops to enable the enthusiasts to learn music and art.
This time also Art and culture department has organized a training workshop to impart training in Ghumat 'vadan' for 50 participants at two places, Margao in south Goa and Ponda in north Goa.
Maestros of Ghumat will teach these participants the techniques of playing Ghumat.
The 10-day workshop at Margao will commence on August 8 and the one at Ponda from August 11 to 20.
The enrolment is on first-come-first-served basis and those interested in taking part in the workshop should apply to the Director of Art and culture, Old secretariat building, Panaji, before August 6.
