BJP MP Giriraj says recovered money belongs to cousin

Patna, July 12 (IANS): BJP MP Giriraj Singh said here Saturday that the huge amount of cash stolen from his house and later recovered by police belonged to his cousin.

"The large amount of cash belongs to my cousin. I have informed police in my statement," Singh told mediapersons.

The Bihar assembly was adjourned Wednesday and Thursday after the Janata Dal-United and the Rashtriya Janata Dal created a ruckus demanding Singh's arrest over the recovery of over Rs.1.14 crore and $600 in cash and jewellery stolen from his house.

Interestingly, Singh in his complaint to police had said only Rs.50,000 was stolen from his house last week.

However, Singh has repeatedly said the cash belonged to his cousin.

Singh is a Lok Sabha member from Nawada parliamentary constituency in Bihar and had invited controversy during the Lok Sabha campaign by his remark that those opposing the party's then prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi should be sent to Pakistan.

In his election affidavit in May this year, Singh had said he possesses only about Rs.2 lakh in cash.
