Puttur, Aug 8: The much talked-about Akshata murder case took a new twist after the prime accused Sattar surrendered before the police on Monday August 7 midnight. His surrender has now given a surprising and unexpected turn to the case which is being investigated by DCIB.
Sattar who came from Dadar in Mumbai on Monday night surrendered before the Puttur town police inspector Mukund Nayak through noted social activist Addu of Padil. As soon as he surrendered before the police, he is said to have confessed his crime but told the police that he alone and no one else was involved in the murder.
Though the police have not yet officially announced about his surrender, it is said that Sattar told the police that both of them were in love with each other for long before Akshata turned down his proposal for marriage. "Both of us were in love and I had decided to marry her. But at the last minute she refused me. But I even decided to become Hindu for her sake. In this regard I went to Madikeri and met a temple priest to discuss about the formalities to get converted to Hinduism. After coming I told about this to Akshata. But she did not care a bit and refused me completely," he said.
He further said that he met Akshata on her way back home on Saturday June 24 near Tarigudde. "It was raining cats and dogs. I for the final time asked her to marry me. She once again refused and asked me to leave her alone. At this point I got angry and in a fit of rage stabbed in her neck with a knife. She sustained severe injury and blood started gushing forth. I regretted for stabbing her and asked her to come to the hospital. But she refused and within few minutes died," said he.
It is said that after the murder he hid her body in the nearby bushes and threw his clothes in a well and went home where he changed his dress and fled the place. During all these 44 days he had been hiding himself in various places before reaching Dadar in Mumbai. The police had got news about his hiding in Mumbai and they had even gone to arrest him. But he had managed to escape narrowly then.
But finally the police have succeeded in getting him back to the town and even making him to surrender himself through Addu. It is said that he has now been taken to a secret place for further investigation.
