Six killed as blast hits passenger van in Pakistan


Islamabad, July 17 (IANS): At least six people were killed and three others injured when a bomb planted along the roadside exploded near a passenger van in Pakistan, police said.

Fareed Khan, a police officer, said the passenger van was hit by the explosion in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Xinhua reported.

Khan said another small explosion went off as soon as people gathered at the blast site for rescue work. However, no casualty was reported in the second blast.

The van, carrying an undetermined number of passengers, was on its way to Hangu district from Zargari town in the province.

Officials from the bomb disposal squad said the bomb, weighing about 10 kg, was planted in an oil tin placed by the roadside.

Rescue teams shifted the injured people to a nearby hospital.

No group has yet taken responsibility for the explosion.
