Tihar jail DG transferred


New Delhi, July 17 (IANS): In a surprise move, the union home ministry has transferred Tihar jail Director General Vimla Mehra, sources said Thursday.

Mehra, a 1978 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre, was posted under the Delhi government as director general of Asia's largest prison Tihar jail in July 2012.

Sources in Delhi Police told IANS that her next posting will be decided by Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung after consultations with Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi.

Mehra will be retiring Feb 28, 2016.

The order was issued Wednesday evening, the sources added.
