Army foils infiltration bid in Kashmir

Srinagar, July 18 (IANS): An infiltration bid by militants was foiled by alert soldiers of the Indian Army on the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir's Bandipora district, police said Friday.

A senior police officer said a group of five to six militants tried to sneak into the Indian side of the LoC in Gurez sector Thursday night.

"When the alert troops of the army challenged the intruders, they fired back.

"The fire was returned to engage the militants in an encounter (gunfight) which forced them to retreat," the police officer said.
