Two protestors hit by bullets in Kashmir clash


Srinagar, July 18 (IANS): Two people sustained bullet injuries during clashes with the security forces in in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district Friday after a protest against Israeli attacks on Palestinians in Gaza turned violent, police said.

"Two protestors were hit with bullets during violent clashes with security forces in Qaimoh area of Kulgam in the afternoon. Both the injured have been shifted to hospital for treatment," a senior police officer told IANS here.

Reports from the town said a group of angry protestors against Israel's bombing of Gaza resorted to heavy stone pelting at the security forces in Qaimoh town after the Friday congregational prayers and security forces opened fire to quell the mob.

Senior police and Central Reserve Police Force officers reached the spot immediately after the incident.

High tension gripped the entire south Kashmir area after news about the firing spread.

Senior hardline separatist leader, Syed Ali Geelani, had called for post-Friday prayer protests in the Valley against the Gaza bombing and death of seven people in an accident in Srinagar Thursday.
