'No Sri Lankans on crashed MH17'


Colombo, July 19 (IANS): There was no Sri Lankan passport holder found in Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 which crashed in east Ukraine Thursday, an official said.

The Boeing 777, en route to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam, crashed Thursday afternoon in the conflict-hit Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine killing all 298 passengers and crew on board.

No Sri Lankan nationals were among the 298 people killed when the Malaysia Airlines plane was downed, Xinhua quoted Sri Lankan Ambassador to the Netherlands, Buddhi Athauda, as telling media. However, the identities of many of the passengers still remain unclear.
