Eight killed in Libya clashes

Tripoli, July 22 (IANS/EFE): At least eight people were killed and 81 others were wounded in clashes overnight in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi between Islamic militias and paramilitary forces led by renegade general Khalifa Haftar, security sources said Tuesday.

Two of the dead were civilians whose home was hit by a rocket and most of the others belonged to Haftar's forces, the sources told Efe news gency.

Benghazi has been witnessing fighting between paramilitary forces and other militias seeking to control the city.

Three years after the fall of the Muammar Gaddafi regime in 2011, insecurity is widespread as Libyan transitional authorities have failed to dismantle or disarm rebel groups active in the country.
