Bangalore, Jul 23: In yet another major decision to give a fillip to industrial activity and encourage investment in the industrial sector in Karnataka, the Siddaramaiah regime has decided to extend the lease period of lands or plots allotted by the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) from the present 30 years to 99 years.

It may be mentioned here that the State Government has already come out with an amendment bill to the Karnataka Land Reforms Act to simplify the procedure for conversion of lands acquired for setting up industries and the Bill is presently before the State Legislative Assembly.

The State Cabinet, which was chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has also decided to allot KIADB plots for entrepreneurs only for setting up industries.

A decision was taken in the wake of companies, industries and individuals selling land allotted to them, once sale deeds were given.

The State Government’s intention is to protect KIADB lands which should remain with the State.

In another decision, the State Cabient decided to pay Rs 100 more per quintal of sugar procured from two factories – Mysugar, Mandya and Mysore Paper Mills, Bhadravathi.

Sugar would be procured at Rs 2900 per quintal and it would be used for distribution for below poverty line families under the public distribution system.

Last year, the commodity was procured at Rs. 2,800 per quintal. Two factories would supply around 70,000 tonnes of sugar a year.

The State Cabinet on Wednesday deferred its decision on the final list announced by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) on March 21 for the 362 posts of gazetted probationer, Group A and B, in the 2011 batch.

The cabinet meeting discussed the list submitted to the Government by the KPSC.

Though I agree with the advise of well wisher, but the news article is bit confusing to draw any conclusions. One place it talks about lease and in other para it says about allotted selling the plots once sale deed is uted! Need to read detailed data.

Most of the large industries will take atleast 10years to establish and make profits and 30 years was good enough at the most 40 years would be good enough no indursty can survive with the same plant and machinery for more then 40 years . Should have been capped at 40 years

It is incorrect to give land on such long lease basis. Who is going to monitor the activity for next 99 years? Will the paper signed now will be in safe custody after 99 years? Looks like both state and central govt. give farmers land to industries and wash their hands temporarily.
Correct approach would be lease out land for only 10years. Lease needs to be renewed after every 10 years. Independent committee needs to be formed by state and central govt. and decision needs to be taken after auditing. It is like performance appraisal. Otherwise lease that land to some other well doing companies and expect some good returns. What do you say? Also govt. needs to support small players as well. Thanks!
