Colombo, Aug 16: South Africa has decided to pull out of the Unitech Cup tri-series in Sri Lanka, according to sources on Wednesday.
India and Sri Lanka will now play a bilateral series consisting of five one-day internationals.
The South Africans had decided to stay back on Tuesday but only subject to another security assessment by their own board and the ICC, which was undertaken on Wednesday.
Media reports in South Africa had earlier suggested that the players wanted to return home after Monday's bomb blast in the capital. It was further reported that they even had the backing of regular captain Graeme Smith, who is not in Colombo.
The South Africans were to play the first one-dayer against hosts Sri Lanka on Monday but it was called off due to rain.
Following the blast in Colombo, the Proteas asked for the match, which was rescheduled for Tuesday, to be cancelled.
