Mangalore, Aug 17: "The city has not been the same as it was some years ago.  It has been registering a fast growth in all spheres.  Population too has been increasing.  Along with that the number of vehicles too is increasing.  This coupled with pathetic roads have been posing innumerable challenges to police in controlling the traffic.  In keeping mind the increasing populace of the city, we have been contemplating of starting two more police stations and an additional circle.  Recommendations in this regard have been made with concerned persons,' said Dakshina Kannada SP B Dayanand.

He was speaking at the "Meet the Press" programme held at Press Club here on Thursday August 17 morning.

He said that he has been planning to start a few more projects to provide the best service to the people.  "We have been thinking of introducing a special project called "Electronic Beat" in order to tighten our night patrolling.  We have necessary facilities for this.  However, the staff need training in this regard which will be given shortly.  Once they are trained, the facility will be introduced in phases with city and Panambur being first on the list," he added.

He also mentioned that the city needs 6 more traffic signals since the existing 4 are proving inefficient in controlling the ever-increasing traffic.  He also said that more alcometres will soon be introduced.

Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists' Association president Ravindra Shetty was also present at the press conference.
