President congratulates CWG medal winners


New Delhi, July 29 (IANS): President Pranab Mukherjee Tuesday congratulated Indian sportspersons who have won medals at the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, an official statement said.

Mukherjee congratulated Jitu Rai, Gurpal Singh, Gagan Narang and Vikas Thakur for winning medals in their respective games, the statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan said.

In individual messages, the President congratulated and wished the sportspersons "continued success in their future endeavours".

Acknowledging their achievement which has made the nation "proud", Mukherjee called them an "inspiration for other Indian sportspersons".

Rai won a gold and Singh bagged a silver in the men's 50-metre pistol shooting, while Narang bagged a silver in the men's 50-metre rifle prone shooting. Thakur bagged a silver in the men's 85 kg weightlifting.
