Mangalore, Aug 18: Jesuit Brother Loy Fernandes SJ died of drowning in Chennai on August 18 evening.

The news brought waves of shock in St Aloysius College where he had completed his Graduation studies.

Loy had done his B A Journalism with optional English and Communicative English during 2002-2005 from St Aloysius College Mangalore.
 
Thereafter he was studying M A Philosophy at Satya Nilayam (Sacred Heart College), Chennai under Madras University. He was in the second year of his MA studies.

Until the last reports came on Friday night, his body was yet to be traced.
The Jesuit Brother, had gone swimming to the sea side, and reportedly drowned. Being very active in all the College activities, he won many a heart and prizes too. He passed out of the College with distinction in 2005.

Loy joined the Society of Jesus in 1999 in Mount Saint Joseph, Bangalore. After two years of his Novitiate (spiritual training) he went to Trivandrum for Juniorate for one year, and then came to Asha Kiran (residence) to do his BA in Journalism at St Aloysius College.

During his studies, he also published many an article in local and national dailies. Even during his philosophical studies, he was working with "Adyar Times," local English daily in Chennai.

After his under graduation in 2005, he went to Chennai (Satya Nilayam) to do his post graduation in Philosophy from Loyola College, under Chennai University.

It is said that Loy had completed his and had gone swimming.

Loy hailed from Cascia, Mangalore and is survived by his parents and two younger brothers of whom one is also a Jesuit brother presently in Dharwad.

Apart from music Loy was actively involved in organizing various events in St Aloysius College. A vibrant member of Sahodaya, Loy had traveled several places to teach English to the visually impaired. A very serviceable Jesuit novice, Loy always carried a smile on his face.
