Mangalore, Aug 20: ‘Konkani Fudara Diwas’ was observed by the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy in association with various Konkani Institutions and organizations of the state in Town Hall here on Sunday Aug 20.
The event was inaugurated by Mangalore MLA N Yogish Bhat. Renowned Psychiatrist of Shimoga Dr K A Ashok Pai was the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, president of State Konkani Sahitya Academy Eric Ozario said that the future of Konkani is in the hands of the children and thus the day was dedicated to the future of Konkani.
In 52 schools, 1600 children are studying Konkani in our State and this should not stop. Further the teaching of Konkani must come effectively in all schools by next year, Ozario said.
James Mendonca president of Mangalore Konkans Dubai who spoke lauded the efforts made around the world to popularize Konkani. While there has been an increase in awareness on Konkani language in the Middle East countries, effective measures to strengthen this must be made, he added.
‘Vengent Nach Go’, a Konkani music album of Praveen D’Souza Vittal was released by singer and musician Puttur Narasimha Nayak.
Mark Denis D’Souza of Sharjah, James Mendonca and Shobha Mendonca from UAE, Frank Lobo Muscat, Fredy Lobo, Sharjah and Clement Lobo Mumbai were among the special guests who participated in the programme.

Roy Castelino president, Konkani Prachar Samiti, GSB leader Raghav Kamat, Kudmi leader Vijay Gowda, Siddi leader Francis Siddi, Dr Edward Nazareth, Vitori Karkal, Gladys Rego, Louis Pinto president of Maand Sobhann. Pundalik Marate of the Konkani Textbook Committee was also present along with members of the State Konkani Sahitya Academy.
Music director Charan Raj and Konkani writer Titus Noronha compered the programme.
