Montreal, Aug 22: Martina Navratilova won her 176th WTA doubles title Monday when she and Nadia Petrova downed Cara Black and Anna-Lena Groenefeld 6-1, 6-2 at the Rogers Cup.
Navratilova, who turns 50 on October 18, is to retire for a second time after the August 28-September 10 US Open in New York.
The doubles and singles finals were postponed on Sunday due to rain. About 2,000 spectators turned up on a cloudy but dry Monday morning.
It was a fifth doubles win for Navratilova at the Canadian event, each with a different partner. She also won in 1981, 1982, 1985 and 2004, when her partner in Toronto was Groenefeld.
Navratilova and Petrova, playing together for the first time, split US$59,000. Black and Groenefeld shared US$29,940. Navratilova has more than US$21 million in career earnings.
The pair met little resistance in Black, a doubles specialist from Zimbabwe, and the German Groenefeld, a top 20 singles player who also has five career doubles titles. They broke service in the first game and never looked back.
Navratilova, the dominant player in women's tennis in the 1980s, also has 167 career singles titles.
