Puttur, Aug 24: A mock operation by police in Vivekananda Engineering College here created an atmosphere of confusion among the student as well as the parents' community on Wednesday August 23.  Since students did not know that it was mock operation, news that a bomb was planted in the college spread in the region and people, especially the parents came running to the college to confirm the news.  Once they came to know that it was only part of mock drills, they breathed a sigh of relief.

It all started on Wednesday when police called up college principal and the management and said that they wanted to carry out mock operation to create awareness about the mode of police operations is times of need.  However, the student community was not informed about this. 

On Wednesday an anonymous person called college and said that a bomb was planted in the college campus.  Immediately, the college management contacted the police.  The latter came in vehicles along with Bomb Defusing Squad, rounded-up the college and started to locate the bomb.  Students and teachers were asked to leave their classrooms.  Once they completed their operation, they said that it was a hoax call.

It was only later in the evening, that police announced that it was a mock operation.  However, parents of the local students had come to the college campus.  Parents of the outstation students too made several calls to the college to know about the situation. Along with that media too was a bit confused, as they too did not know that it was a mock operation.
