Mangalore, Aug 27: The Department of Journalism of St Aloysius College (SAC), which is known for its innovative methods of teaching and activities, will be organizing a Workshop on Documentary Filmmaking. The seven-day intense workshop from October 23 to 29 will be full of practical sessions on idea generation, scripting, camera, lighting, editing and sound.

The workshop will culminate in public screening of the documentaries made by the participants. P N Ramachandra, an award winning filmmaker (from Bombay), of the first digital Tulu film ‘Suddha’, and teleserial Surabhi (Karnataka episodes) fame will be the main resource person.

Comenting on the field of filmmaking, Fr Richard Rego HOD Journalism said that filmmaking using handycams has become a common practice, though most are not aware of how to make optimum use of the technology at hand. Besides, there is a dearth of expertise to guide interested people in teaching the art film making. Hence, the workshop will focus on filmmaking using single CCD digital video cameras, since these cameras are readily and easily available in this era of digital technology.”

The workshop will also include sessions on using professional 3-CCD cameras too.

The workshop will be especially useful to the students in general and students and Mass Communication and Journalism, in particular. The members of the staff who handle film appreciation and media teaching will find this beneficial.
