Mangalore, Aug 28: The National-level Intercollegiate fest "ComQuest '06" was inaugurated at St Agnes College here on Monday, August 28 morning.

The inaugural function took place in the college auditorium. Bharat Beedis executive director Anant G Pai, who as a student of SDM College, holds the credit of conducting the very first intercollegiate fest in 1993, was the chief guest.

St Agnes College principal Sr Carmel Rita, St Agnes institutions' local manager Sr Shalini and former principal and provincial coordinator of Carmel institutions Sr Olivia were also on the dais.

Sr Supriya welcomed the gathering. A group dance depicting the motto of the event, Navras, the nine forms of human emotions, set the atmosphere for a competititve event. Staff coordinator Deviprabha detailed the ethos, scope and potential of ComQuest '06 and also briefed on the college's achievements in terms of NAAC and UGC recognitions.

She also revealed that 19 colleges from Mangalore, Udupi, Karkala and Puttur and also places as distant as Goa, Pune, Bangalore, Mysore, Belgaum, Coimbatore and Kolkata would be taking part in the events.

Chief guest Anant Pai expressed happiness over the holding of such events and explained how they helped the students to better themselves. While stressing that winning and losing were part of the game, he said the real victory lay in the spirit of participation.

Sr Olivia traced the history of the college and placed on record its achievements and recognition it had won down the line during the past decades.

The highlight of the function was the ceremonial carrying of the excellence trophy in a traditional palanquin into the hall. It was taken to the dais where the chief guest unveiled it.

Principal Sr Carmel Rita also spoke of the importance of this national-level fest and the spirit of competition. Sweeny Lewis compered the programme.

The two-day event will conclude on the evening of Tuesday
