Mangalore, Sep 3: The popular and the grandest Ganeshotava celebration of the city is held on Nehru Maidan annually. The week-long festivities which include both religious and cultural programmes came to an end on Saturday, Sep 1 with the immersion of the idol of Lord Ganesha.
The spectacular event was the procession which began from the maidan at 8 pm and moved on the major roads of the city to Mahamahi temple, Car street.
Led by 11 colourful tableaux the decked up idol of Lord Ganesh was taken in a procession. Thousands of devotees participated in the procession offering poojas and chanting bhajans. Several entertainment troupes were also a part of the procession.
While traffic was diverted on the major roads, police security and monitoring resulted in smooth organization of the event.
