Udupi, Aug 29: A bullet tanker overturned in front of Mayura Hotel, Kaup here on Thursday August 28, after its driver lost control of the vehicle.
The gas tanker was plying from Mangalore to Belgaum. Soon after it entered Kaup, the clamp of the tanker broke. The driver who noticed this tried to stop, but lost control of the vehicle, with the result that it overturned.
The driver's presence of mind in trying to control the vehicle averted what could have been a major tragedy. If the driver had moved on with a broken clam without trying to stop, the accident would have been worse, locals opined.
Udupi fire personnel rushed to the spot to prevent any possible leakage.
Kaup police too arrived and shifted the tanker.
