No interference by Russian military in Ukraine crisis: Minister

Moscow, Sep 1 (IANS): Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov Monday said Moscow will not send out military troops to in the ongoing turmoil in Ukraine's eastern regions.

"There will be no military interference. We advocate only peaceful settlement of the heaviest crisis, the tragedy," Lavrov said in a speech at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations.

Lavrov has also urged the US and the European Union (EU) to help stop Ukraine from using heavy weapons, Xinhua reported.

Meanwhile, he accused the EU of exerting strong "sanctions inertia", referring to the bloc's decision Sunday to apply further sanctions on Russia within a week given Moscow "continues to escalate the Ukraine crisis".

"The US and the EU should give up the absolutely hopeless policy of ultimatums, threats and sanctions if they want to resume pragmatic cooperation with Russia," Lavrov added.
