Cupertino, Jul 16: Apple is reportedly preparing to launch its first-ever foldable iPhone in the second half of 2026, and fresh industry leaks have revealed key details about the device’s display and component suppliers.
According to TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone Fold will feature a crease-free foldable screen designed by Samsung Display, breaking Apple’s traditional practice of using in-house designs. The decision, Kuo says, was made to ensure smooth mass production of the new device.
The internal hinges of the iPhone Fold will be manufactured by South Korea-based Fine M-Tec, the same firm that supplies hinges for Samsung’s own Galaxy Z Fold and Flip series. Apple is expected to rely on Fine M-Tec for around 80 percent of the hinge components required for the foldable iPhone.
These hinges will use laser-crafted microstructures to ensure durability and flexibility. Mass production of the components is expected to begin in early 2026, with Fine M-Tec expanding its manufacturing capabilities at its Vietnam facility.
Analyst projections suggest Fine M-Tec will produce 13 to 15 million internal hinges in 2026. However, this number also includes spare parts for servicing and replacement, and may not reflect actual iPhone Fold shipments.
Previous reports had hinted that Apple would exclusively source foldable OLED panels from Samsung Display, as other suppliers like BOE and LG reportedly failed to meet Apple’s high standards for crease-free folding technology.
