Mangalore, Oct 1: While the Mahanavami festival in the city painted the city red, the same day became the Doomsday to the passengers of a rickshaw in the city. The tragedy was all the more poignant since it was the Ayudha Pooja day, when the vehicles are decorated and prayers are held for safefy of the vehicles and well-being of the passengers.
In a ghastly road accident which occurred on Sunday, October 1 at Kuntikan junction around noon, two persons were killed on the spot. The horrid scene at the accident spot made it the most dreadful one. Those who saw the accident were shell-shocked at the horrid sight, too numbed to run to their rescue.
A lorry laden with rice bags was plying from Kottara Chowki towards Pumpwell when a technical snag resulted in a catastrophe. The heavy vehicle which turned on one side crashed into a rickshaw plying from Landlinks towards Kottara junction.
Out of the three who were in the rickshaw two of them, including the driver, died on spot. The third person was rushed to the hospital and is said to be in a critical condition.
Chandra, the rickshaw driver and Murali,a fisherman died on the spot, while Purshottam who was traveling with Murali suffered severe head injuries.
The duo who visited Kudroli temple on the occasion of Ayudha Pooja was on their way to Konchady.
