New Delhi, Oct 2: President A P J Abdul Kalam on Sunday greeted the countrymen on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti and appealed to them to work for the eradication of poverty, illteracy and discrimination.
"Gandhiji also taught us to stand resolutely against fear to understand the importance of truth and to work for eradication of poverty, illiteracy and discrimination," Kalam said in a message here.
Calling upon people, the President said, "Let us dedicate ourselves once again to these ideals and work hard for the upliftment of 220 million of our brothers and sisters living below the poverty line."
Prez, VP and PM greet people on eve of Dussehra
New Delhi: Greeting the countrymen on the eve of Dussehra, President A P J Abdul Kalam, Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday asked people to work for peace and well-being of the society.
"Let us on this auspicious day resolve to bring peace and well being and to share our happiness with those in need," Kalam said in a message here.
He said the festival of Dussehra celebrates the triumph of truth and the power of ethical and moral values cherished so deeply in society.
"On the auspicious occasion of Dussehra, I extend my greetings and good wishes to all my people living in India and abroad," the President said.
In his message, Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat said Dussehra celebrates the triumph of good over evil with gaiety and enthusiasm.
"This festival reaffirms our faith in the sublime and eternal values in our lives. May the great festival bring peace, prosperity and happiness in the lives of all," he said.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed the hope that Dussehra would usher in peace, prosperity and happiness for all.
He said the festival signifies the triumph of righteousness over evil and through this "profound" message inspire the humanity to lead a pious, virtuous and noble life.
