Airstrikes destroy militant hideouts in Pakistan

Islamabad, Sep 24 (IANS): A number of militant hideouts were destroyed and terrorists killed in airstrikes in Pakistan's Khyber Agency early Wednesday, local and intelligence sources said.

Jet fighters struck suspected militant hideouts in various parts of the region, Dawn online reported.

The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) is yet to issue details of the recent military activity.

The airstrikes are part of the ongoing military operation, named Zarb-i-Azb, initiated June 15 after the Taliban and their ethnic Uzbek allies claimed responsibility for the attack on Karachi airport and peace talks failed between the government and Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) negotiators.

Nearly a million people have fled after the military operation commenced in north Waziristan.
