Bengaluru, Aug 22: Karnataka has topped the country in registrations under the Prime Minister Vishwakarma Scheme, an initiative by the central government to support traditional artisans involved in the production of handicrafts.
The union ministry of micro, small, and medium enterprises confirmed that as of June 30, 2025, a total of 2.71 crore applications have been received under the scheme, with 29.94 lac registrations successfully completed—marking 99.80% of the 30 lac registration target.

Karnataka has received the highest number of applications in the country—32,22,576—and successfully completed 5,71,637 registrations, accounting for 17.7% of the total. Madhya Pradesh (8.8%) and Maharashtra (10.4%) follow in the list.
The PM Vishwakarma Scheme aims to identify traditional artisans and provide them with skill training, toolkits, financial support, and assistance in market access, branding, and packaging.
Karnataka has demonstrated notable efficiency in completing the three-stage verification process. Out of 32.22 lac applicants, 20.84 lac cleared stage 1, 10.08 lac cleared stage 2, and 5.76 lac completed stage 3, resulting in 5.71 lac fully registered artisans. In contrast, Madhya Pradesh, with 31.66 lac applications, recorded only 2.77 lac successful registrations.
District-wise, Tumakuru leads Karnataka with 65,276 registrations, followed by Kolar (38,199), Chamarajanagar (30,001), Chitradurga (39,926), and Bidar (32,974). Even smaller districts like Udupi and Kodagu have shown notable participation with over 7,900 and 2,600 registrations respectively.
However, several districts recorded low success rates. Vijayapura saw only 1,670 successful registrations out of over 57,000 applications, while Bagalkote had just 3,876 from nearly 95,000. Bengaluru Urban recorded 15,001 successful registrations out of 1.8 lakh applications. Despite a high number of applicants, districts like Vijayanagara and Yadagir also showed low successful registration rates.
Through this scheme, Karnataka has made significant strides in empowering Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). A total of 1,30,256 SC beneficiaries have been registered, of whom 1,06,025 have completed basic training. Similarly, 59,900 ST beneficiaries have been registered, with 48,359 completing their training.
