New York, Sep 28 (IANS): Apple has launched a new software platform that collects data from health and fitness apps and filters them to suit the needs of its users.
Called HealthKit, the programme makes health data easily available to Apple users through the new health app installed on iPhone 6.
HealthKit provides a single place that applications can contribute to a composite profile of your activity and health, Forbes magazine reported.
"Developers have created a vast array of healthcare devices and accompanying applications but you cannot get a single comprehensive picture of your health situation. But now you can, with HealthKit," announced Craig Federighi, senior vice president at Apple.
This software programme finally lets Apple enter the a multi-trillion-dollar health industry.
Given Apple's huge user base and market power, HealthKit could indeed be transformative for the healthcare industry, the report added.
