Mangalore: 12 ft long whale shark found dead at Panambur beach

Mangalore, Sep 28: A critically endangered species Whale shark was found dead at Panambur beach here on Sunday September 28 morning.

Yatish Baikampady, chief executive officer of Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project (PBTDP) said, "Shark was too young in its age. It was only about ten feet long. Whale might have been floated off shore after its death in sea. Panambur beach life guards noticed the dead shark on the beach and informed coastal security force".

“As, we could not move it, Panambur Beach Life guards with the help of local youths made a pit in the beach and buried the shark there”, he added.

The cause of the death of 12 ft long whale shark remains unknown.

It is also learnt that shark bore no external injury marks.
