Mangalore, Oct 1: Backward Communities Morcha, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), DK District, celebrated the 160th birth anniversary of Brahmashree Narayana Guru and held at C V Nayak Hall in Kadri, on Monday September 30 in the city.
R C Narayan, general secretary of the Morcha, welcomed the guest.
The programme began with a prayer by Roopa D Bangera and lighting of the lamp by Pratap Simha Nayak, chief, BJP, DK district unit .
Addressing the gathering, Nayak said, “Brahmashree Narayana Guru, through his efforts, tried to remove inequality from society. We have to live our life following the footsteps of Brahmashree Narayana Guru. Humans, due to pride and ego are losing spirituality in the present times. Our own soul is impure but we point fingers at others saying they are bad or dirty. We can introspect and change our style of living. Let’s lead an honest life and live in harmony amongst each other by denouncing caste or creed in society.”
A felicitation programme was held for distinguished personalities of backward communities of the district.
Mohan Raj K R, Backward Communities Morcha BJP, DK District, Kota Shrinivas Poojari, president, state BJP Backward Communities Morcha, Lalaji Mendon, former minister, Rukmaya Poojari, former minister, Monappa Bhandary, Padmanaba Kottari, Sulochana Bhatt, Shree Angara, and Nithin Kumar were present during the occasion.
Devadas Shetty, vice-president, DK district BJP unit, compered the programme.
