Dubai: SMKC Sets the Stage Ready for Fifth Consecutive 'Konkan Showers'

Dubai, Oct 12: A few days are away to welcome the Eid celebration, bringing with it a season of entertainment events all over the Gulf made of a variety of shows.

Dubai will welcome this season with a smile on the face of the Konkani-speaking community around town with St Mary's Konkani Community (SMKC) organizing the fifth consecutive "Konkan Showers" in Al Nasr Leisureland on November 9, 2006.

With charity as its motto,  uniting the community through charity is always a challenging task. With over AED 600,000 donated to various causes of the needy in India and Dubai in the last last five years, this year too the SMKC has managed to reach people who support such charity causes wholeheartedly.

The entertainment event will begin at 9.00 pm with main focus on Konkani music. Well-known artistes from Mangalore, Mumbai, Kuwait, Doha and Dubai will converge on a single stage to display their talent. For all those non-Konkani audience there will be a special comedy event by a well-known Bollywood comedy artiste.


Rony D`Cunha, Anita Samsom

Melwin Peris, the Yodelling King, along with Anita Samson, will be flown in from Mangalore. Melwin has a number of musical 'nites' and music albums to his credit. But the prime attraction will be Nephie Rod-Pradhan, a Bollywood fame Konkani singer who will be flown in from Mumbai. Nephie has lent her voice to many Konkani albums and sings regularly with Sudesh Bhonsle in his musical shows.

Rony D`Cuna, the heart-throb of youngsters and the darling of Konkani music-lovers, along with music maestro and trumpet sensation Adrian Gomes, will be coming down from Kuwait


Adolf Jayatilak, Anjelina

Adolf Jayatilak, a Doha-based Konkani singer who has made a name in a number of Mandd Sobhann events and audio albums, will also be a part of the event.

Local singers Anjelina will also join these artistes.

Robert Vegas will lead the 'West Breez' music troupe and direct the music for the show

The event will be compered by Ronald Olivera and Shobhna duo.

Noel Mascarenhas, who has been leading the SMKC ever since its inception in the year 2001, has made this organization popular not only around UAE but back home in Mangalore as well as other Gulf countries.

"This is a platform anyone can enter, show the talent and serve the community," said Noel when interviewed by daijiworld correspondent

"Under the able direction of Fr Cyprian D`Souza for the first four years and now under the guidance of Fr Frederick D`Souza for the past one year, SMKC has seen remarkable progress, and completing five years successfully is an emotionally fulfilling moment. As we we look back, we have great satisfaction over what we have achieved," he says.

"The fifth anniversary will feature a number of surprise items, including gifts and takeaways. Professional dance troupes will perform live and the event will make people of all age groups join and enjoy throughout," he adds.

"Everyone needs relief and  diversion from the stressful life in Dubai, and SMKC wants to offer big relief and relaxation to those who attend this quality entertainment programme," he concludes.
