Hyderabad, Oct 7 (DHNS) : Maverick film director Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) is in the news for the wrong reasons, yet again.
His upcoming movie “Savitri” — based on a young boy who is infatuated with his class teacher — has run into trouble, after the posters were released on Friday.
The posters show the boy staring at the midriff of a young woman whose face is not seen. Accompanying the posters are Varma’s words recalling his crush on his English teacher. Varma says that others having similar childhood crushes inspired him to make the movie. He then invites youth to react and express their feelings which can be incorporated into the film.
“Savitri” is about the first crush of a teenager, being written and directed by Kiran Prasad. In every young man’s life there will be a Savitri. When I was in school I had a crush on my English teacher. That Saraswathi is today’s Savitri,” RGV — the producer of the film — tweeted in Telugu.
“In your life you might have fantasised about your teacher, next door aunty, friends of your sister and your tuition teacher. We are making this movie with all of your experiences. We are launching a contest ‘Who is your Savitri’. Share your experiences with us through nasavitri.com. Your experiences might find a place in my movie. Get lucky with Savitri,” wrote the filmmaker.
The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, however, is not at all amused by RGV’s open letter to share the sleaze. In a memo to the city police commissioner and producer-director Ram Gopal Varma, the commission said it had booked a case against RGV for the posters of “Savitri” that appeared in the newspapers on Friday.
“The teacher was shown exposing herself. This is a violation of child rights and is against using children for such kind of posters. This comes under JJ Act, 2000 (Sections 21-26), IPC Sections 292 (1) and (2), POCSO Act Sections 13 & 14 (1) & Young Persons (Harmful Publication) Act, 1956,” the commission said.
The commission on Sunday directed the Hyderabad police commissioner to enquire into the matter and submit the action-taken report by October 8.
The commission also directed Varma to submit his explanation by the same date
