Mangalore, Oct 16: The fifth "PIEGA….PIEGA..." musical nite hosted by the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (Angelore) became a trend setter with several innovations making Konkani live music more enjoyable.

On Sunday Oct 15 in Don Bosco Hall, four young musicians offered a complete entertainment package. Breaking the normal trend where the singer calls for a musical nite, Piega...Piega was a brave venture of musicians, Joel Pereira, Roshan D'Souza, Ashith Pinto and Melwyn Fernandes.

What began with a bang, kept the audience captured for three hours with their music. The music-loving crowd had lots of surprises and the newness in the nite was well appreciated.

Sunday's Piega...Piega was a musical treat by the young for the young and the old. Truly a harmonious blend of young singers bubbling with energy.

As if to represent communal amity, the nite had a Muslim singer, a Hindu singer and also Christian singers.

Miss Daijiworld fame Melita Pinto who compered the event broke open the box of surprises for the audience as they walked in between them toward the stage and introducing each and every singer of the evening.

Dedicated to the late Mick Max, Piega...Piega.. brought on stage vibrant singers including Mohammed Iqbal, Prakash Mahadevan, Babita D'Costa, Amabel Moras, Anil D'Sa Pangla and Johnson Crasta.

Much applause was received to the foot tapping eight new songs composed by Roshan D'Souza and Ashith Pinto.

While the songs were a healthy blend of new and old Konkani numbers, a special dedication was made towards the cause of caring for the orphans. While the troupe sang the specially composed song on orphans, a short documentary film depicting the plight of orphans of Mangalore was shown.

Jerry Rasquinha's jokes were a great hit at the nite, but the audience felt the need for some dance performances.

A well-received innovation in the musical nite was singers providing an introduction to each song. The stage was also specially set to give ample movement for the performers.

Parish priest of Angelore Parish Fr Stany, secretary of the parish council Mary Patrao and the main sponsor of the evening Henry D'Souza of Nirmala Service Station were the guests.

President of ICYM Angelore Santhosh Mascarenhas and convener of the event Daniel Tauro were also present.

The proceedings of this musical show will be utilized for educating poor children.
