Ayaz Ahmed's character turns gay on TV show


Mumbai, Oct 10 (IANS): MTV's "Kaisi Yeh Yaariyan" will soon have an interesting twist in the storyline with Ayaz Ahmed’s character Cabir turning gay.

The show portrays the life of five buddies, and the current track shows Cabir as a womaniser, who is always surrounded by beautiful ladies and someone is always flirting with them.

The twist is that Cabir is gay, and too embarrassed to disclose this to anyone. But now, the cat will come out of the box.

While homosexuality is a less spoken about issue in the country, MTV, as a youth channel, believes in highlighting it. To highlight the gay act in the show as well, the channel has associated with an NGO 'Yaariyan', which helps those who are fearful about coming out of the closet.

Talking about essaying a gay character, Ayaz said: "I find my character turning gay, a good and interesting turning point for the show. The reason being is that nowadays not everyone gets to play such a character.

"In fact, I was quite kicked about it and I'm looking forward to shooting my new role."

The actor says he has a few friends who are gay and that he respects their way of living.

Manish Paul, who is a huge fan of Amitabh Bachchan, recently co-anchored "Kaun Banega Crorepati" (KBC) with the Bollywood megastar. He calls the experience "the best three days of my life".

"It was a pleasure working with Bachchan sir. I am a diehard fan and I have learnt a lot while working with him. I had the opportunity to spend three days shooting and rehearsing with him. Truly, these were one of the best three days of my life," Manish said in a statement.

She has played a 'holier-than-thou' daughter-in-law as well as a bubbly genie on screen. But actress Giaa Manek, who will be seen in a comical role in "Ajab Gajab Ghar Jamai", says it feels great to make a "comedy comeback".

In "Ajab Gajab Ghar Jamai", which airs on Big Magic, Giaa will be essaying Menaka, a close friend to the character of Dolly.

Talking about her role, Giaa said: "It feels great to make a comedy comeback with this channel. My fans will be seeing me in a new avatar as the role I'm playing in 'Ajab Gajab Ghar Jamai' is very different to what I've done in the past.

"As an actor I have to choose the roles according to what my audiences will like. Hence, every character I play is very important to the image I portray."
